One Dead After Mid-Air Collision Near Ottawa

One person is dead after two light planes collided mid-air this morning over Ottawa’s west end around 10 a.m.

A smaller aircraft struck the underside of a twin-engine 11-seat Piper Cheyenne. The smaller plane crashed into a field, it’s occupant found dead by Ottawa paramedics. The Cheyenne was redirected to Ottawa International Airport, where it landed safely despite damage to its landing gear. No passengers on the Cheyenne sustained any injuries.

A section of road was closed by police at McGee Side Road between the westbound off-ramp of Highway 417 and William Mooney Road.

Ottawa police say the Transportation Safety Bureau will be investigating.
